Cloud Tower Platformer Level

Alongside drawing thumbnail level designs for the Cloud Tower level I have developed an early block out for the level. This is to get the scale size right for the Player, Platform, tower door and the size of the tower itself.

This is the wireframe of the block out and I have designed a few objects to use to see how the player would get onto the platform objects
I have designed a staircase asset for the player to progress the charcter up in order to get onto the platform

I have resized the steps of the staircase to a slightly bigger size, I have done this to make them easier for the player to get up and to also make them look bigger in game view
I have designed the floor of the tower

While designing the block out of the cloud tower I decided to do an early prototype of the tower in Unity
While doing an early prototype of the level I did an early prototype test, during this prototype test I found that the character controller is not the right size as I need it to be so I will resize the character to the size needed
I have included in a first person character controller into the tower level

I have designed a few more platforms for the block out of the level

I have designed another staircase but a much smaller staircase to the other one

More platform design for block out

Further platform design for block out

Testing the block out development in Unity to make sure that everything is working and lined up correctly

This is the second early prototype test for the level. I have done this test for the block out to see if everything is working and lined up correctly, everythig in the block out of the tower is working fine and lined up correctly

After doing the second early prototype test I noticed that the objects and the tower itself are currently too small. I have re sized the tower
I have re sized some of the objects and the floor of the tower
I have finished re sizing the objects and the floor of the tower
I have positioned some of the objects in the centre of the tower ready to be exported out into Unity

I have centred the tower itself ready to exported out into Unity
I have centred more of the objects so that they are in line with the tower and ready to exported out into Unity separately
Before starting the level design I have done an early test. This is to test the jump distance between the floor and the platform and to also test the speed and jump height of the character, the character currently moves too fast and the jump height is too high so the character sometimes jumps past the platform instead of onto it

I have included in the platform and first person character controller into the tower.

I have designed a plane object to use as the floor of the tower

I have included in the staircase asset and positioned it at the bottom of the tower on the floor, this will be used for the player to get up to reach the first platform

While doing a test I noticed that the platform was too high and that the player would not be able to reach it
I have brought the platform down to where the staircase is to make it easier to jump onto
I have designed a wall for the tower and positioned it on the left side of the cloud tower
I have duplicated the wall and positioned it at the other side of the tower

I have duplicated the platform twice to have the three small platforms for the player to jump across to get to the other side
I have designed a medium sized platform and positioned it at the other side of the small platforms
I have included in a small staircase and placed it on the medium size platform for the player to go up

I have done this test to see if the jump distance works with the platforms and if the player controller is able to get up the staircase

I have duplicated one of the small platforms and positioned it near to the staircase for the player to jump onto

I have positioned the platform slightly closer to the staircase to make it easier to jump onto

I have designed a large sized platform and positioned it behind the small platform

I have done this test to see if the character is able to get onto the large platform by jumping onto it, I noticed while doing the test that the player will be able to just walk onto the platform

I have positioned the platform slightly higher up so that the player will have to jump onto it
I have done another test the player will be able to jump onto the platform now and not just walk onto it
I have duplicated the large sized platform and placed it at the other side of the medium sized platform for the player to progress further into the level.

I have duplicated the staircase and positioned it on the platform

I have duplicated one of the small platforms and positioned it slightly above the staircase for the player to jump onto

This is the start of the arrow dart asset development

This is slight further development of the arrow dart

I have designed the arrow dart head, which will be fired out as projectiles

I have designed the body of the arrow dart

I have included in the arrow dart asset and positioned it onto the platform and duplicated the asset to have the two arrow darts. The arrow dart will fire the arrow heads as projectiles towards the player which will hurt the player if they hit the character and the player will need to time gettig across the platform in time without being knocked off by the arrow projectile

The second asset I have designed is a pipe which will be used as secret area entrances

This is the finished pipe asset

I have included in the pipe asset into the level, the secret area will be designed where the pipe is located and the player willl need to go through the pipe to enter into the secret area

I have done a test to see if the pipe is big enough for the player to get through, the pipe is too small so the player is not able to get through and usually falls through the pipe

I have scaled the pipe object to a slighty bigger size

I have done another test to see if it is easier for the character to get through the pipe, the character still falls through the pipe before reaching the end

I have designed some more platforms for the player to jump across and onto

I have duplicated the platform and positioned it after the two small platforms for the player to jump onto from the small platform

I have done a test to see if the player would be able to jump across the platforms to the other side, the character is able to get across the platforms without any difficulty or problems

I have changed the speed of the character controller from 3 to 2, this is to see how changing the speed of the character affects the gameplay

I have done a test to see how the change in the speed effects the gameplay, the speed of the character moves at a slight slower pace and at the pace I would be using for the level

I have changed the speed of the character again to the speed of 1 to see how this would affect the movement of the character
